Last Monday, I had the absolute joy of photographing Gerry and Jean’s surprise proposal at Broadway Tower, one of the most iconic and romantic landmarks in the Cotswolds. As a Cotswolds proposal photographer, I’ve seen a fair few breathtaking moments; but this one truly felt like something out of a winter love story.
Broadway Tower always delivers, but that morning it was extra special. The rolling Cotswold hills stretched out in soft winter light, the air had that crisp December chill, and the tower itself stood glowing against the vast countryside. Subtle festive touches sprinkled around the grounds added a warm Christmas charm; the perfect backdrop for a moment Gerry had been planning for months.
Gerry had reached out to me well in advance with his plan: a casual winter walk, a scenic viewpoint… and then the moment. Jean had absolutely no idea.
As they approached the tower, I blended in among the other visitors, documenting the build-up discreetly. When Gerry gently slowed their walk and took Jean’s hands, the world seemed to pause. And then, he dropped to one knee.
Jean’s reaction was everything: pure shock, laughter, hands over her face, and the biggest, warmest yes.
These raw, emotional reactions are exactly why I adore surprise proposal photography; they’re real, unfiltered, and impossible to recreate.
